Asher O’Gorman (AT/IE/UK)

Asher O’Gorman is from Ireland/England and resides in Vienna.  She works both as a dancer & maker in various collaborative settings.  Asher holds a B.A.(Honours) in choreography at Darlington College of Arts (UK), and completed her dance and choreographic training in (SEAD) Salzburg in 2008.  Currently she is working on her Masters at the applied university of Arts Vienna.

Asher O’Gorman’s work is a meeting of choreographic and visual art practices.  The work largely encompasses systematic processes found through desire.  Working with choreographic sensibilities to compose movements, things & intentions, forming rhythmical moments and pathways.  Folding, marking, translating what is already there.  Making visible what is not always visible.  Details detected by our senses that are often overlooked in an era of over stimulation.  Choreographic forms that invite curiosity, ask questions ‘did i see that?’ It is perhaps detailed and quiet but insistent and powerful.

Asher was selected for Werkstück - Vienna’s young choreographers residency in TQW and completed a year long residency at Daghdha Space Limerick Ireland.   She was awarded the DanceWEB scholarship of Impulstanz 2012 and received the 'Start-Stipendium' BMUKK.  Asher work TRANSIT was performed as a part of the Impulstanz festival in the frame of choreographers venture.  Her work has further been supported by Bundeskanzleramt Österreich; Tanzquartier Wien; WUK tpp; Workshop foundation Budapest; Firkin Crane; D.ID dance identity; South Bank Centre, Independent Dance, Im_Flieger, Chisenhale dance.

Besides her own works, she collaborates with Jana Unmüssig (DE), Christine Gaigg ‘2nd Nature’ (AT), Mårten Spångberg (SE), Iris Dittler (AT), Malika Fankha (CH), Ruairi Donovan (IE), Tara Silverthon (UK) among others.
